RAMBLERS CYCLING CLUB – Saturday 30th September 2006

The 2006 Ramblers Cycling Club Individual Time Trial Championships were held from Bridge Pa School on Saturday. Fine, mild weather, combined with a light and variable sea breeze saw many of the 105 riders who registered record fast times.
Racing over 40km, Jeremy Vennell retained the Senior men’s title with a time of 55m 31s. Josh Brannigan put in a superb ride to finish second in 56m 45s while Tony Hooper (58m 52s) and Blair Heney (59m 45s) both cracked the one hour mark.
In the combined Vet 1 & 2 men’s event over 25km, former Vet 1 National Champion Andrew Townsend showed his time trialling class to retain his club title with a time of 34m 27s. This time was 52s ahead of second placed fellow former Vet 1 National Champion Kerry Harford who in turn was 14s faster than the first Vet 1 rider and third placed finisher in the combined race Jason Kelly.
Peter Gavin recorded 29m 18s to win the Vet 5+ race over 20km with Roy van Panhuys second in 30m 04s and former Olympic track cyclist, Rob Oliver, third in 30m 54s.
The largest field was that of Vet 3 & 4 with Bruce Galloway securing the title over 20km with a time of 29m 09s by edging Ken MacKenzie into second, just 11 seconds adrift, and Ian Seddon into third, a further 12 seconds back.
Vet 2 women also saw a tight tussle with Shona Brown again prevailing over the 20km distance. She finished in 33m 26s to win by just 10s over Sue Tunnicliff with Rosemary Weskett finishing third.
With a time of 17m 37s, Danielle Harford retained her U15 girls title over 10km with Sarah Watson second in 18m 18s. Both of these girls will be chasing medals at this years Nationals.
A winning margin of 1m 33s saw Austen Thomson comfortably win the U17 boys race over 15km from second placed Jed Usherwood.
In the first tandem race, the pairing of Mark Todd and Pauline Summers won in a time of 32m 31s for 20km with Brian and Roxanne Kelly finishing second in 35m 09s.
The Senior Women’s title was secured by Rachael Knapton in a time of 42m 28s for 25km over Steph Everson who was 49s back.
Marg Radich was too strong in the Vet 1 women’s grade and comfortably retained her title in 31m 30s with a 7m 23s margin over second placed Caroline Thomson.
In other results, Fergus Wares won the U15 boys in 18m 14s over 10km, Kirstin Hartley retained her U17 girls title over 10km in 18m 51s and Ali MacKenzie took out the U19 title over 25km in 36m 09s.
