iWay is a scheme aimed at increasing the number of people walking and biking to work, school or for fun in the Hastings District.
Renamed iWay after Hastings District Council was awarded $4million from the New Zealand Transport Agency as part of the Model Community Project, we're putting the money to good use by funding new and improved cycle lanes, developing commuter-specific routes, road upgrades and community safety programmes.
By 2013, iWay want to see a huge increase in the number of people making walking and cycling an everyday part of their lives and loving it as much as we do.
In a nutshell, we exist to:
Identify new commuter routes
Enhance current cycle and walk tracks
Educate kids in schools about the benefits of walking and cycling
Provide opportunities to revive old bikes
Help people make that first step
Make it fun and learn to love it
Build community spirit by making friends
Save emissions to the environment
Build an active and healthy community
