With marginal weather conditions, just 44 riders registered to race for the 18km Individual Time Trial 'out and return' along Ohiti Road, as the Ramblers Cycling Club Winter Series continued on Saturday. This was a graded race against the clock with riders starting 30 seconds apart within their grades and not allowed to draft with other riders. Often referred to as the “race of truth”, individual time trials pit riders against the clock both physically and mentally with strong riders able to show their cycling abilities.

A grade’s Bret Harte was the only rider to crack the coveted 40km/h average speed with a time of 26m 01s and an average speed of 41.5km/h to comfortably record first place by over 1m 52s over 2nd placed Jeff Flatt.
Carl Fraser, riding in B grade, completed the course in a time of 27m 39s to record the second overall fastest time for the day and beat 2nd placed Brett Mudgway by 20s.
The closest tussle was in C grade with Ian Wright finishing in a time just 10 seconds slower than Jason Trow.

Next Saturday’s racing is the annual two day club tour from Puketapu on Saturday afternoon and Raukawa Hall on Sunday which offers double points for the Winter Series.
